The New Pilgrim to offer fresh angle for coverage of Plymouth Argyle
Green is the colour of the day as CounterPress announces the latest outlet to join our growing network.
Plymouth Argyle fans will have a new home for coverage of their club from early next year, as The New Pilgrim - run by John Duerden, who has covered Asian football for The Guardian, World Soccer, the BBC and Associated Press since the turn of the century - opens for business.
"I hope that this means that the Green Army will find my outside view as refreshing as a walk along the Plymouth Hoe"John Duerden, The New Pilgrim
Early interest sign-ups can be made from November 17, and the site will launch on January 1, 2026.
The New Pilgrim will carry features, nostalgia, comment and interviews, going into depth and breadth on the past, present and future of a famous football club.
It is the third outlet covering EFL clubs to set up on CounterPress, following in the footsteps of The Moonraker (Swindon Town) and From Bromley With Love (Bromley).
Duerden said: "I am hugely excited about the challenge of providing consistently excellent coverage of a club that deserves the very best. I may not be an Argyle fan, but I hope that this means that the Green Army will find my outside view as refreshing as a walk along the Plymouth Hoe on a blustery day and just as exhilarating."
CounterPress offers all the tools to facilitate journalists, reporters and content creators to conceive, create, promote and monetise their own media brands.
Founder Sam Morshead said: "Plymouth is a big EFL club, and John will deliver the kind of coverage that its large number of fans demand.

"The imminent launch of The New Pilgrim is an exciting development for CounterPress, as we make rapid progress in UK sports media.
"Increasingly, power in the media is transferring from large institutions to trusted individuals. At a time when many sports writers are losing their jobs, and the industry in general appears impossible to navigate for aspiring journalists, CounterPress offers a serious and viable alternative.
"I'm delighted John has taken the plunge, and we're committed to making sure The New Pilgrim is the success it deserves to be.”
In addition to providing the core digital tools to manage content, analytics, finances and communication with subscribers, CounterPress offers branding, marketing, editorial, commercial and strategic consultancy support.
The platform has been designed to empower journalists to create products of value over volume, which resonate with their respective communities.
