Saturday White Fever to grip Craven Cottage as independent Fulham title launches on CounterPress
Saturday White Fever will grip Craven Cottage next season, as a new independent title covering Fulham launches on CounterPress.
The site, led by prominent national sports writer Dave Kidd, intends to become the new home of fan's eye local reporting on the Whites.
Dave is a Fulham fan of 45 years' standing, a season-ticket holder in the Hammersmith End, and has a formidable record in journalism.
He was a Chief Sports Writer for four different national newspapers, covered six World Cups, five European Championships, a dozen Champions League Finals, more than 1,000 Premier League matches, as well as countless other major worldwide sporting events during his three decades on Fleet Street.
Saturday White Fever members can look forward to a site which will give Fulham supporters what they have been missing: a focus on their club which combines the passion and knowledge of a true fan with the independent journalistic rigour and expertise of an experienced leading sportswriter.
This will include news, views, interviews and features – an outlet which gets under the skin of Fulham, and will provide the sort of coverage unavailable in the mainstream media, who have abandoned proper coverage of all but the Big Six elite.
Dave said: "I'm hugely excited to launch this new service and believe it is exactly what Fulham supporters want.
"Since David Lloyd stopped producing his much-loved fanzine 'There's Only One F in Fulham' – a product I was proud to contribute to for many years - and since The Athletic stopped regular Fulham coverage, along with the sad decline of traditional local newspapers, there has been a huge void waiting to be filled.
"Saturday White Fever is here to give you that service – with depth and breadth; with candour and humour; with the enthusiasm that can only be provided by a lifelong supporter who has seen it all from defeat to Torquay in 1996 to victory over Juventus in 2010 and plenty more either side.
"It will be produced with genuine love for the club but with an independent, critical eye through good times and bad."
Saturday White Fever's early interest waiting list is now open, ahead of a full launch in August.
Fulham supporters keen to explore the platform can secure an exclusive discount on membership by adding their details to the mailing list today.
Co-founder Sam Morshead said: "Dave is a bona fide sports journalism heavyweight, with a massive contacts book, deep understanding of how football works, and a longstanding love of Fulham.
"That is perhaps the perfect blend for an authoritative, distinctive, personable local title – and I have no doubt that is what Saturday White Fever will prove to be.
"CounterPress has been built for journalists of all ages and levels of experience to benefit from owning their own title, and Dave's decision to trust us to deliver him the platform he needs to make this project a success is a huge compliment."
Be a part of change.
