First-of-its-kind site covering English futsal arrives on CounterPress this summer

Initially launched in 2024, solely as a social media channel, with the purpose of ‘Putting English Futsal on the Map’, Total Futsal has filled a gap in the market, steadily building an engaged audience within the sport.

A new sport arrives on the CounterPress network this summer, with the launch of Total Futsal.

The site is a first-of-its-kind venture, dedicated to the coverage and promotion of English futsal, as the sport continues to develop in this country. Initially launched in 2024, solely as a social media channel, with the purpose of ‘Putting English Futsal on the Map’, Total Futsal has filled a gap in the market, steadily building an engaged audience within the sport.

Today’s announcement sees the brand take the next step in its evolution, as it aims to add further professionalisation to a developing sport.

Total Futsal is led by journalist Ben Stevens, 25, who has been involved with futsal since 2019 and found his love for the game playing for the University of Liverpool, before moving into the National Futsal Series to play two seasons for Liverpool Futsal Club.

After graduating from Liverpool John Moores University with a Masters in Sports Journalism in 2024, Ben spotted a market gap, and combining his love for futsal with his journalistic skillset, Total Futsal was born.

While still involved on the court, Ben’s recent travels to Argentina, where he watched the likes of Boca Juniors and Newell’s Old Boys in futsal and football action, has only deepened his knowledge and connections within the sport.

Ben’s background in journalism and content creation includes the first-ever published futsal feature on BBC Sport in October 2024, regular freelance coverage of the Premier League and European football for Stats Perform and, since March 2025, he has led the digital communications and marketing for England Futsal, overseeing the coverage of UEFA Futsal Euro and FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers.

Total Futsal members can look forward to unprecedented levels of news coverage from across all levels of the men’s and women’s domestic game, alongside features, analysis & opinion on the stories that matter most in English futsal.

It’s a platform led by community-voice, placing deserved spotlight on the incredible talent, hard-work and dedication of the futsal players, coaches and clubs nationwide. Staying true to its roots, Total Futsal will continue to evolve as a multi-platform, digitally versatile brand, with high-quality social media content and podcasts complimenting the central hub of the Total Futsal website.

Ben will be supported by a range of voices from within the futsal community, further details of which will be revealed in the lead up to launch day, after receiving a hugely positive response to a call for contributors recently.

Ben said: “Futsal is the best sport in the world. I have felt that way for a long time now, and with club and international attendances on the rise in European futsal, it is certainly a sport of the future. While other nations, like France and Germany, have seen this trend and already invested heavily in the sport, the journey in England has been somewhat less linear, especially since the removal of all FA funding for the national teams since COVID.

“But England is bursting with talented players, thriving clubs and incredible diversity, such is futsal’s global reach. They deserve a platform that understands them and champions them, while bringing the game to new audiences.”

Total Futsal’s early interest waiting list is now open, ahead of a full launch in the coming weeks.

Anyone keen to explore the platform can secure the first month of membership to Total Futsal free, by adding their details to the mailing list today.

The site is the latest in a succession of outlets covering a variety of sports to make CounterPress their home.

CounterPress offers the technical infrastructure and industry knowledge and support that journalists and creators need to build their own media brand.

Co-founder Sam Morshead said: “This is a really interesting launch for us at CounterPress, and we’ll be keeping a keen eye on how the futsal community reacts to Ben’s title landing.

“The sport is growing rapidly in England, and already has a considerable presence in parts of Europe and South America, and that aligns with our intentions to grow the CounterPress network globally and at pace.

“Ben is an energetic and resourceful young journalist, who already works in futsal and has the connections and focus to make this a success.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun helping him build a media brand that resonates in his community, and generates value – for both him and his audience.”

Be a part of change.
